A perfect five ride maximum score from Chris Holder helped steer the Castle Cover Pirates to a 59 33 win over the Belle Vue Aces and keep them firmly in pole position at the top of the Elite League standings. Pirates other Australian asset Dave Watt rode unbeaten by an opponent as the Pirates underlined their superiority over the Manchester based Aces outfit.
Another good all round team effort said Pirates team manager Neil Middleditch and one which shows just how good a side we are at the present moment.
For someone in his first year of racing in the Elite League, Chris Holder was just fantastic. He was head and shoulders above any of the Aces riders and is a real world class star in the making. Some of the overtaking moves he pulled of tonight were just unbelievable.
Poole were never in any danger of losing against an Aces side that was handicapped by the absence through injury of Jason Crump. They always looked the quicker from the start and restricted Belle Vue to just one heat advantage in the match, this coming as late as Heat 14 by which time the Pirates had already wrapped up the match result.
All of the Pirates side got among the points with skipper Bjarne Pedersen chalking up three fine race wins on his way to an 11 point score, but the night belonged to 20 year old Holder, who is now being tipped as one of the favourites to win the 2008 World Under 21 Championship at the end of the summer.
