Ricky Wells took the lead at the start and made Speedway Motorcycle racing look easy while winning the 4-lap main event Wednesday night at Industry Speedway.
It was the second feature win in three weeks for Wells, of Yorba Linda, who will celebrate his 17th birthday on Sunday.
Wells, the reigning U.S. Under 21 champion, served notice that he was the one to beat by winning two of his three qualifying heats to top the scoring list with eight points (three for a win, two for second and one for third), then used a last-turn pass to edge Eddie Castro in a semifinal.
In the final, Wells lined up in the middle of the five-rider field, but quickly took the lead from pole-sitter Buck Blair, of Huntington Beach, and built an insurmountable advantage.
Blair, who won the June 4 main event, was second this time, with Castro third, first semifinal winner Neil Facchini, of Riverside, fourth and Bakersfield’s Brad Sauer a non-starting fifth after fouling on the initial start and pulling into the infield.
