Rye House Speedway: Mearkat Named For Cobras’ Cup Clash.

Robert Mear has been sensationally named to the Kart Raceway Cobras team to battle Plymouth in the Conference Knock-Out Cup semi-final at Rye House on Sunday (June 27th).

The 19 year old is part of the Cobras’ squad, although this will be his first appearance for the team this season. It will be a busy afternoon for Mear and Daniel Halsey, who are both also programmed to ride in the earlier Rockets-Berwick Premier League fixture that kicks off Sunday’s double header at 2pm.

The Devils, meanwhile, will be without both Nicki Glanz and Kyle Hughes, as the two are committed to Premier League action for Reading (at Glasgow) and Sheffield (at Newcastle) the same day. Their own squad system will still provide places for experienced former Exeter Falcons Seemond Stephens and Mark Simmonds, though, plus newly crowned Bronze Helmet winner Welsh Wizard Tom Brown and hot reserve Paul Starke.

All in all, the stage seems set for an epic cup tie. The Cobras have a 21 point deficit to overturn if they are to reach this year’s Final. The question now is whether the “Mear factor” can help tip the balance by inspiring the team to a famous second leg comeback.

That question will be answered on Sunday.

Cobras team:
1. Robert Mear, 2.Rob Smith, 3. Danny Halsey, 4. Andrew Aldridge, 5. Terry Day, 6. Gary Cottham, 7. Lee Strudwick.

Plymouth team:
1. Mark Simmonds, 2. Jamie White-Williams, 3. Nicki Glanz R/R, 4. Tom Brown, 5. Seemond Stephens, 6. Jaimie Pickard, 7. Paul Starke.
