A Speedway Motorcycle racing season that gets more competitive each week will resume at 7 p.m. Wednesday (July 23) at Industry Speedway.
In addition to the exciting racing in five classes, several drivers and teams from NASCAR-sanctioned Irwindale Speedway will have their stock cars on display throughout the evening.
The dirt oval in The Grand arena, at the Industry Hills Expo Center, seemed to belong to veteran Charlie Venegas during the first of the season. The 41-year-old from San Bernardino reinforced his status at the most successful rider in the venue’s history by capturing eight of the first nine scratch main events.
In the past two weeks, however, the four-lap features have been won by 16-year-old Ricky Wells, of Yorba Linda, and 25-year-old Shaun Harmatiuk, of Garden Grove. And last week, both Venegas and June 4 main event winner Buck Blair, of Huntington Beach, failed to qualify for the five-rider field.
The depth of the riding talent at Industry Speedway was demonstrated at other venues, too. Jimmy Fishback, of Rancho Cucamonga, beat Wells to capture the prestigious Fair Derby Championship at Costa Mesa; Neil Facchini, of Riverside, took the scratch main at Victorville; and the team of Industry Speedway regulars Austin Novratil, Gino Manzares, Joey Holt, River McDougall, Brad Pappalardo and Samuel Ramirez won the Youth North versus South competition at Auburn.
Entrance gates at The Grand open at 5:30 p.m. and racing gets under way at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, students and military, and $5 for children 6-13.
