Billy Forsberg, Belle Vue's young Swedish star, will have a special reason to roll back the back the years when the Aces stage their long-awaited 80th Anniversary meeting at Kirkmanshulme Lane next Monday.

It will be 80 years to the night since speedway started at the greyhound stadium before moving to Hyde Road and a host of former riders are on the guest list, headed by Ove Fundin and Peter Collins, two of the five men to bring the World title to the Manchester club.

But Forsberg will have his own piece of history as the guests not only include Swedish legend Fundin, who won the title five times in all, but his grandfather, Dan Forsberg, who was a top Swedish rider in the 1950s.

Speedway runs right through the Forsberg family as Billy's father, Raymond, was also a rider who coached him as a lad.

Grandfather Dan, now 74 and retired to Spain, rode frequently against Belle Vue for Birmingham and Billy is keen to impress him on his return to Manchester.

He said: "Often I only see him once a year so it will be good for him to come to Belle Vue again and I want to do well for him."

Forsberg is one of 16 riders competing for the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy, named in memory of the Liverpool-born Wizard of Balance who won the World title for the Aces in 1955 and 1962 before his death a year later following a crash at Edinburgh.

The Aces have recognised the part played in their illustrious history by other great clubs as the riders will be wearing specially made body colours of those sides, some of them now defunct.

Forsberg will wear the Norwich colours as that was where fellow Swede Fundin spent much of his British career while Belle Vue's Jason Crump, another double World champion, will ride in Bristol colours. That's where he was born because his father, Phil, was riding for them at the time.

Fans are expected from those clubs, even though they no longer exist, and the same applies to Leicester Lions' supporters who are trying to revive the famous old side. A special attraction for them will be the presence of Leicester legend Ray Wilson.

Steve Casey, Belle Vue's Meeting Presenter, said: "Fans from these defunct clubs are thrilled that their race jackets will be seen in action again and we are expecting a good turn-out. We have told them they can collect signatures for petitions they are running to bring back their own clubs."

More than 40 former Belle Vue riders are on the guest list – as are Douglas bikes which were used by the riders in 1928 when speedway started in Britain.

They will seen in action before the meeting and Peter Collins will also be out on one of his collection of machines. A special event will be the appearance of Waterloo Road actor Jason Done, a lifetime Belle Vue fan who has always wanted to ride a speedway bike.

Special guests at the meeting include the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Coun Mavis Smitheman, who represents the local Ardwick ward, and Gorton MP Sir Gerald Kaufman.

The stadium gates will open at 4pm and the turnstiles at 5pm. There will be extra parking at the hockey stadium next door.

There will be an exhibition of bikes in the pits area including Douglas machines used when the sport started in 1938, the bike Peter Collins used to win the 1976 World title as well as some Superbikes from Isle of Man TT superstar, John McGuinness.

Extra attractions include a fair, in memory of the old Belle Vue stadium, clowns and face painters.

The old bikes and the Belle Vue mascots will be in action on the track from 6.05 and at 6.45 former riders will be presented from the top of a vintage, double decker 53 bus which used to bring fans to Hyde Road.

There will be a grand parade at 7-0 and the 20-heat race meeting will begin at 7.35.

The field, and the clubs whose colours they will be wearing, is: Tai Woffinden (Odsal Tudors), Carl Stonehewer (Leicester Lions), Ricky Ashworth (Sheffield Tigers), Jason Crump (Bristol Bulldogs), Joe Screen (Belle Vue Aces), Billy Forsberg (Norwich Stars), Nick Simmons (Coventry Bees), Jason Lyons (Birmingham Brummies), Leigh Adams (Swindon Robins), Lewis Bridger (Wimbledon Dons), Scott Nicholls (Wembley Lions), James Wright (Exeter Falcons), Jurica Pavlic (Southampton Saints), Chris Holder (Poole Pirates), Patrick Hougaard (West Ham Hammers), Charlie Gjedde (Cradley Heath Heathens).
