Coventry Speedway: Match report - Bees 42 Lakeside Hammers 51

BUILDBASE Bees skipper Chris Harris was taken to hospital after a high-speed crash in Heat 10 of an incident-strewn meeting.

Coventry's Olly Allen and Lakeside's Leigh Lanham had already been forced to withdraw with shoulder injuries after earlier crashes, when Harris slammed into the fence halfway through one of his trademark chases.

He had already used the outside to pass Joonas Kylmakorpi and was sizing up a move on Adam Shields when his machine bucked violently on the first bend of lap three, and he was immediately sent into the fence.

Harris was given lengthy attention on the track and then taken away for x-rays on his back - with all at Brandon keeping their fingers crossed. A further update will be issued when more information is known.

Bees had battled well against a strong Lakeside team and were level at 27-27 when the accident occurred, but the resultant 5-1 reverse in Heat 10 and the loss of Harris for later races meant the match was always likely to go against them.

Harris had beaten Andreas Jonsson in Heat 1 but it was the former Bees man along with Hammers' skipper Adam Shields - who had arguably his best-ever meeting at Brandon - who supplied regular race wins for the visitors.

A spate of Lakeside advantages saw them open up a 12-point lead before Billy Janniro produced two marvellous rides to finish the meeting - first passing both Kylmakorpi and Lubos Tomicek to win Heat 14, and then holding off the challenge of Jonsson in a thrilling final race.

But Bees will now be awaiting medical reports ahead of a vital local derby against Wolverhampton on Friday with both teams at the wrong end of the table - Wolves having also lost at home on Monday night.

BUILDBASE BEES 42: Billy Janniro 14+2, Simon Stead 8+1, Rory Schlein 7, Chris Harris 6, Andreas Messing 4, Ben Barker 3, Olly Allen 0.

LAKESIDE 51: Andreas Jonsson 13, Adam Shields 12+1, Jonas Davidsson 8+1, Lubos Tomicek 8+1, Ricky Kling 5+1, Joonas Kylmakorpi 4+3, Leigh Lanham 1+1.
