I was at the last Salisbury club meet on the weekend on a fairly cold sort of day. I dont know exactly how many riders were there but there wasn,t a lot.
The attendance at training has stepped up a notch now they have a new coach in the shape of Brian Herd and is attracting good numbers.Brian has quickly pulled the boys into shape and has started producing fast riders who can take it as well as dish it out.
The time trials also were entertaining and I missed the fastest time of the day (10.00 dead) by Cody chadwick.I had my back to the action while chatting with Mick Harley ,who was at the track checking out the action.
There was a bit of action in the big boys when Ryan Edson came unstuck by a shoulder from Daniel Bax sneaking up the inside, all perfectly legal, but as Ryan went down Daniels brother ,Tony , arrived on the scene at a rate of knots and had no-where to go except straight into and over Ryan.Coming on the scene also at a faster rate of knots was Matt Mathews who ended up swerving to miss the accident and ended up in the pits via the staging lanes.
Luckily there were no tinytots lined up waiting for their next race ,as they normally do.
Time trials were run on the day and I think this was a wise move by the people in charge as the track was a belter with a little looseness on the exit of both corners. The track has been getting plenty of water and this track absorbs it like a sponge , the more water soaked in the more it holds together and provides some excellent traction as the times indicated.
I know Daniel Bax reeled off a 10.01 and cody Chadwick a 10.00 on the dot.
Halfway through the meet a couple of bewielded young boys were ushered onto the track in front of everyone to recieve their life memberships to the club. They were presented with a beautiful silver tray each and to get their life membership so young just shows the dedication of some of the parents and their children to achieve this great milestone.
Congratulations go to both Mathew Hurley (under 9) and Joshua Carden (under 9)
Some great racing in the 26"bikes and the new training is certainly starting to pay dividends as all riders seemed to be quicker and more agressive to get or maintain a spot.Quite a few of the riders are now getting close to being on an even par with the better riders as their fittness improved so are their times.
Off to LeFevre next week to report on their new "Winter Split Championship"where a new system is being tried, more next week!
