The current stars of Speedway Motorcycle racing will be joined by some future stars of off-road racing at 7 p.m. Wednesday (July 16) at Industry Speedway.

An Off-Road Expo featuring a half-dozen young drivers racing their Modified Karts will be held in conjunction with the multi-layered speedway motorcycle racing program at The Grand arena in the Industry Hills Expo Center.

The Modified Karts are a staple of the Championship Off-Road Racing series. They are powered by 250cc or 450cc 4-stroke motorcycle engines and have bodies that resemble both the full-sized CORR trucks and SCORE desert Trophy Trucks.

Connor Hart, 13, of Ramona, Sheldon Creed, 10, of El Cajon, and Blake Lenk, 11, of Newport Beach, hold positions two through four, respectively, in the CORR point standings. They’re scheduled to be among the six drivers who will compete in a pair of heat races and a main event on the short, tight speedway track.

The Speedway Motorcycle stars, meanwhile, will have their usual program of First, Second and Third Division races and the sport will put some future stars of its own on display in the Youth and PeeWee divisions.

Ricky Wells, who’s just 16 but is already a First Division standout, got his first main event win at The Grand last week, beating Buck Blair and Eddie Castro in one of the best races of the season. The win by Wells ended the second four-race win streak of the season for Charlie Venegas.

In addition to the on-track activity, the Off-Road Expo will feature two vehicles owned by NASCAR and off-road star Robby Gordon – his Hummer H1 support truck for the Dakar Rally and the Crew Cab support truck for races in Baja California.

Entrance gates at The Grand open at 5:30 p.m. and racing gets under way at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, students and military, and $5 for children 6-13.
