The great British weather intervened yet again to cancel last weekends red hot Doonans Wildcats speedway action.  Both Weymouth’s visit to Plymouth and the Wildcats home challenge with the Swindon Sprockets were postponed due to rain.  The Wildcats will now journey back down to Plymouth this coming Friday for the second leg of the Knock-Out Cup with Plymouth then making the return trip the following day, Saturday 12th July, for our Conference League clash.

Jem Dicken Wildcats Team manager commented “We know what we have to do on Friday to progress through to the semi-final of the Cup.  It will be a hard task but I know our riders are more than capable of pulling off a surprise victory.  I am confident of our chances in the home Conference League clash on Saturday and the lads are up for it. I just hope the weather is a bit kinder!”

This Saturday’s home meeting with Plymouth is sponsored by Ralph Tracey Plastering Services and will have an added bonus for the supporters.  Lifetime fans and great advocates of speedway - John and Jill Roberts of Cleve Design are sponsoring a sixteenth heat at the Weymouth fixture in aid of the children’s charity – CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood.  The “Hanna’s Award” will be presented to the winner of a run-off between the top two points scorers from each team over the two meetings.  The award is in memory of Weymouth Promoter Phil Bartlett’s daughter – Hanna who recently lost her brave battle with cancer. A collection for the charity CLIC will be made at both meetings.

Also at the meeting on Saturday will be prodigious speedway author, Jeff Scott, who’ll be coming along to sell his latest speedway book ‘Concrete for Breakfast’. It features many of the incidents and characters from the sport the author encountered on his odyssey to every track in the country during 2007. The Times has recently described the book as “speedway’s war and Peace or, possibly, its Ulysses.”
