Injured Wightlink Islander Paul Fry has set a date for his return to the saddle after being sidelined with a knee injury sustained in the abandoned meeting at Berwick on May 10 and, all being well, that return will take place on May 31 at Berwick in the re-staging of the originally abandoned fixture.

THE SOLENT 1000cc SIDECAR SPEEDWAY CHAMPIONSHIP...

With the Wightlink Islanders having no home fixture planned for next Tuesday (May 27) the club are taking the opportunity to stage their first 1000cc sidecar speedway meeting of the year, a full blown 20 heats of action in the Solent Sidecar Speedway Championship commencing at the usual time of 7.30p.m.

These three-wheeled monster machines, piloted by daredevil drivers with their passengers holding on for dear life, provide terrific racing plus thrills galore as no quarter is asked nor given by the four crews in each and every race.

It's an exciting night out for young and old alike and a full preview of the meeting will be issued later this week.

GLEN BEGINS HIS QUEST FOR WORLD TITLE THIS WEEKEND...

Wightlink Islander Glen Phillips begins his quest to win this year's World Longtrack Championship and will be looking to stamp his authority on the series in the opener that takes place at Marianske Lazne in the Czech Republic this Saturday.

He is one of two Brits competing in the four meeting series that comprises this year's championship chase, the other being former Oxford Cheetah Andrew Appleton and they face tough opposition indeed but Glen is determined to bring the crown back to Britain.

"I've well and truly set my sights on winning the title," he said, "and hopefully I can serve a warning to all my fellow competitors by winning Saturday's opener."

The draw for Saturday is as follows:
