If reigning Short Track UK champion Marco Belli was tempted to "think that it's Hall over"...: it was quickly a case of, "it is now" as Harrogate-based GB international Steven Hall gained the biggest win of his career at a packed main arena at the BMF Show in Peterborough last weekend.
The Flying Tyke indeed delivered a remarkable six straight wins spread over the two days: emerging alongside Belli and one of the pre-meeting favourites, former Speedway starlet Aidan Collins as unbeaten qualifiers from hugely competitive heats in the Grand Prix style event on the Saturday, to take his semi before facing off against the top 12 in an unprecedented 18 lap grand final, plumb in the middle of Sunday's packed order of business at Britain’s premier motorcyclist's show.
The supremely confident Hall was first away from the start with Collins (nephew of one-time World Speedway champion Peter Collins) on his back-wheel for the opening third of the race, before the 'Harrogate Hurricane' pulled decisively away. That left the battle for the other rostrum positions to enthrall the watching thousands with Stamford's Victor 'Ragin'' Bull mounting a serious challenge to Collins; but himself under the most extreme of pressure from Belli and another highly fancied competitor, former King's Lynn and Boston Speedway rider, Peter Boast. A near catastrophic coming together between Bull and Belli almost let in Boast and fellow Market Rasen racer Tim Greig; but with a near blanket-finish looming, it was the Italian Stallion who nipped in front of Bull at literally the last moment to claim third.
In the companion Helmets4u 'Main' Flattrack event, the hugely popular STUK-loyalist Steve Hazell emerged triumphant, resplendent as ever in his retro black leather racing gear and mounted on his awesome Silverstone Harley-Davidson.
In a fiercely competed-for Flat Track Experience Junior Champions of Shorttrack, the still unbeaten Tom Woolley maintained his record but only after being put under intense pressure by the fast-improving Ben Baker, with third spot going to debutant at this discipline, young road racer Joe Moore.
