Berwick Speedway: Bandits replace Smith with Trumiński.

Berwick Bandits have once again acted without delay by bringing in 28-year-old Polish rider, Sebastian Trumiński to replace the injured Scott Smith who was involved in the horrific crash 10 days ago.

Smith, whose bike cart-wheeled over the safety fence and into the supporters’ enclosure had damaged knee ligaments which will see him out of action for some time.

Trumiński briefly appeared for the Bandits in the latter half of 2007, but has returned with renewed vigour following the sad closure of his 2008 track, Newport following the shock death of their promoter Tim Stone.

Trumiński, born April 18th 1980, made his fully licensed speedway debut in 1997, riding for LKŻ Lublin in ’98 and ’99 before moving to TŻ Opole in 2000, then returning to Lublin in 2001.

He’s been keen on hi-adrenaline sports for all his life, getting his speedway qualifications with some ease, although has had a general motorcycle interest too.

He has followed closely the careers of his idols; Hans Nielsen and Tony Rickardsson which has helped him race with a higher positive level of professionalism.

He scored good points last season wherever he rode and is seen as a good point’s booster for the Bandits once again.

“Sebastian enjoyed his all-too-brief spell with us last season and is looking forward to a prolonged session in the black and gold colours this year. He’s more accomplished this season and I think our fans will see the improvement.”

Trumiński’s debut comes this Saturday night at Shielfield Park at 7pm in a league match against Scunthorpe Scorpions, the same night as his fellow former Newport Wasp, Tony Atkin debuts for the Bandits.
