Meeting abandoned after 9 heats
Once again the weather did its best to defeat the return of the Dons to the track at the Wessex tonight. Racing started on a wet track with light rain falling. The rain rain did not let up and after already taking a break to discuss track conditions with the riders a few heats previously the referee stopped racing during heat ten after having to put the red lights on when both Tom Brown and Brendan Johnson both slipped off in separate incidents on the first lap. The track now very wet and slushy in the interests of rider safety the meeting was abandoned with the score at 29 to the Wildcats, 25 to the Dons.
As track conditions deteriorated the racing was unsurprisingly mostly from the gate and Wildcats super fast gater Jay Herne made the most of it recording a win from each of his three rides. After being pushed wide from second place in his first ride causing him to fall and eventually retire after remounting in his first ride Brendan Johnson also got the measure of the tricky conditions and came back to record two straight wins from his remaining rides. The first of which saw Johnson with team mate Armstrong backing him up claim the Wildcats fist 5-1 to snatch the lead from the Dons after they claimed a 5-1 in heat two to edge ahead in the early stages. Kyle Newman had an expensive night when his engine blew in heat four whilst running second to team mate Herne. Ex-Wildcat Terry Day and Jerran Hart led the way for the Dons both recording 6 paid 7 from three rides.
