With the sad news that Newport Speedway will not be operating again this season, the Somerset ‘Sharp’ Rebels are to allow any Newport fans with season tickets to use them at any of Somerset’s home matches for the remainder of the 2008 season.

“It is never good news when a speedway club has to cease operation, for however long that might be.” Said Somerset Promoter Mike Golding, “But it is doubly sad given the circumstances behind Newport’s current situation.”  “We at Somerset always had an excellent relationship with Newport Speedway especially with the Wasps being our local rivals.”

“Therefore, any Newport season ticket holders will be able to use their season tickets to gain entry to the Oak Tree Arena for any of Somerset’s home matches for the remainder of this season.”  “This is our way to give Wasp fans the opportunity to continue to watch speedway until they hopefully get their own team back on track.”
