Glasgow Speedway: A call for Kauko

An enjoyable first league win of the season last week against Island has certainly lifted the spirits of all at Ashfield and it was a win achieved in some style with a 51-42 triumph.  Guest Carl Stonehewer played a huge part in that and it is to the Workington Comets who the Tigers are turning to again with Kauko Nieminen coming in to replace Shane Parker.  Nieminen was a big hit when riding in Glasgow colours in 2006 and is a very welcome addition to the team for this meeting.  Co-Promoter Alan Dick knows he will be busy on a regular basis trying to sort out guests, but admits that Kauko is just about number one choice:

"Sometimes when you select a guest you don't know what you are going to get but we know fine well that we don't have any of these worries with Kauko.  He is a fully commited rider and I know that he has a strong affinity with Glasgow and will certainly be very keen to do well for the team and the fans.  Under the rules we can use riders as many times as we like at home and it is fair to say that he will always be very near the top of the list when we look to select a guest for our fixtures.

It is still going to be some time before Shane is back in the saddle and we have been unable at this time to make a temporary signing so we will continue with guests.  We haven't been let down with both James Grieves and Carl Stonehewer doing a fantastic job as we knew they would, and I think it is essential you know the character of riders you bring in and the two already chosed and Kauko we know that they will give every ounce of effort for the team.

We welcome Scunthorpe to Ashfield this week, a team who are making their Ashfield debut and that should add to the interest but after last week's excellent effort we are looking for more of the same from each and every one of the team."

TEAMS:

GLASGOW: Trent Leverington, Josh Grajczonek r/r, Kauko Nieminen, Lee Dicken,  Robert Ksiezak, Mitchell Davey, Ross Brady

SCUNTHORPE: Andrew Moore, Carl Wilkinson, Magnus Karlsson, Benji Compton, Richard Hall, Viktor Bergstrom, Byron Bekker.

THE BEST OF THE REST:

Injury update:

Shane Parker - Shane is still recovering from his broken wrist and collar bone and is still receiving medical checks from his local hospital.  No final decision has yet been taken as to the best course of remedial attention but both are starting to make slow but steady progress.  As yet, no timescale can be put on his return to the saddle.

Josh Grajczonek has suffered a broken bone in his wrist and hand.  He visited the fracture clinic who have told him to keep a plaster cast on for four weeks and the position will then be reviewed.  It is unlikely that there will be any advancement in that timescale.

The Tigers are racing away this week against Birmingham (Wednesday) and Sheffield (Thursday) with Mitchell Davey returning from injury to take his place in the team for both fixtures.  Once again Carl Stonehewer will guest at Birmingham with Kings Lynn's Tomas Topinka guesting on Thursday.

A REMINDER THAT THE PITS AREA WILL BE OPEN FOR ALL SUPPORTERS FOR THIS SCUNTHORPE MEETING FROM 2.30PM FOR 50 MINUTES UNTIL WARM UP TIME AT 3.20PM

Last week the Tigers defeated the Isle of Wight Islanders 51-42 with Ross Brady topping the score chart with a paid 17 tally -  a best ever in Glasgow colours.  A week on Sunday sees the Tigers take on Redcar in a re-arranged fixture at Ashfield in the Premier League commencing at the usual 4.00pm start.

Glasgow Speedway are delighted to announce a hotel partnership with the Jurys City Inn in Glasgow, more details will appear in future bulletins.  The club would like to thank Paul Bray for his support in this partnership.

A reminder that supporters have the chance to win a trip to the Danish Grand Prix by buying a ticket for the David McAllan Benefit raffle which is to be drawn on the 1st June.  Tickets just £5 are available from the track.

Supporters are reminded that the start time for this weeks meeting is 4.00pm.

THE "BUILDBASE" GLASGOW TIGERS WOULD LIKE TO REMIND SUPPORTERS THAT ALL ACCOMPANIED CHILDREN UNDER 12 ARE ADMITTED FREE OF CHARGE EVERY WEEK AT ASHFIELD.

The referee for Sunday's meetings will be Chris Gay.
