NEWPORT WASPS

BRITISH Speedway Chairman Pete Toogood is hoping to hold talks with a member of the late Tim Stone’s family to explore the prospects of Newport continuing this season.

Stone, the owner of the club, died last week and Wasps fixtures were suspended.

Said Toogood: “This is a very sad time for Tim’s family but we now need to explore quickly the legal and contractual situation to see if Newport can continue.”

GLASGOW TIGERS

GLASGOW have called up Workington star Carl Stonehewer as a replacement for the injured Shane Parker in their Premier League clash with the Isle of Wight on Sunday (4pm).

Parker has suffered a broken wrist and a broken collarbone and is likely to be out for several weeks.

Tigers manager Stewart Dickson said: “Having won the Ashfield Classic on three separate occasions then Stoney’s appearance should come as no surprise.”

MILDENHALL TIGERS

MILDENHALL have moved quickly to snap up Polish rider Michal Rajkoswki who has been axed by Belle Vue.

Rajkoswki was told of the news after the Aces suffered a home defeat by Eastbourne in mid-week.

Mildenhall boss Laurence Rogers said: “We have a good relationship with the Belle Vue promotion and this is a good signing for us.”
