The Wildcats toppled the Giants 53-38 in a fantastic nights racing at the Wessex Stadium. The Giants line up on paper looked like it could potentially trouble the Wildcats but in their last challenge before starting their Conference League campaign the hosts demonstrated that the Cats are going to be a team to be reckoned with in 2008.

Both Jon Armstrong and Karl Mason recorded paid 13 totals to joint top score for the Wildcats. It was a welcome return to form for Wildcats skipper Mason after a start to the season that he will wish to forget with seemingly endless bike problems. Karl started well with a win from the gate in his first heat before following that up with three seconds and a third. Weymouth reserve Tim Webster maintained his awesome start to the season recording three heat wins and a third place from his five rides to notch up ten points. The only rider suffering a slight off night was Luke Priest who recorded 3 paid 4 from his four rides although he did suffer mechanical problems in his last race of the night and retired.

Shaun Harmatiuk was definitely a man out to impress, the American ex Dream Team rider dropped just one point to Jon Armstrong in his four programmed rides although he did take a nasty looking tumble in heat fifteen in a daring last bend manoeuvre whilst in second to Armstrong, thankfully quickly returning to his feet. Wildcats squad member Bargh took two wins and a second place before he donned the Black and White colours for the Giants in heat 11 as tactical substitute. Starting 15 metres back he passed Webster on lap 2 and caught and passed Herne on the last lap to take an impressive second place. Unfortunately a fall in heat 13 and bike problems in 15 meant he didn’t trouble the scorers again.
