Plymouth suffered a four-point defeat following a last heat decider in their opening Conference League match of the season at Redcar on Saturday evening.
The Devils began well, providing six of the first 10 heat winners as they opened up a nine-point lead.
That provided the opportunity for Redcar to give leading scorer Aaron Summers a tactical ride in heat 12 in which he and Gary Beaton scored an 8-1 at the expense of Paul Starke and Tom Brown.
Then a 5-1 from Guy Kendrew and Martin Emerson over Ben Hopwood and Jaimie Pickard in heat 14 saw Redcar take the lead for the first time in the match.
The home side wrapped up victory with a 4-2 from Summers and Scott James against Seemond Stephens and Kyle Hughes in the final race.
Redcar:
Scott James 8+1 (5 rides), Steve Jones 6+1 (4), Gary Beaton 7+1 (4), Martin Emerson 4+1 (4), Aaron Summers 19+1 (6), David Wallinger 0 (1), Guy Kendrew 3 (6).
Plymouth:
Seemond Stephens 12+1 (5), Kyle Hughes 7+1 (5), Tom Brown 7 (4), Ben Hopwood 4+2 (4), Nicki Glanz 6 (4), Paul Starke 2 (4), Jaimie Pickard 5+1 (4).
