Motorcycling Australia (MA) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are proud to announce a partnership has been formed to include bikes in the Australian Speedway Hall of Fame.

The inaugural dinner in Adelaide was an outstanding success however there was one thing missing as NASR General Manager Tim McAvaney explains.

“The only constructive criticism we received was that bikes should be included so we are pleased that MA, as the governing body for Motorcycling Speedway in Australia, has joined NASR in honouring all Speedway competitors from all divisions in the Hall of Fame.”

“It will rekindle the memories and camaraderie when riders and drivers shared the pit area at venues such as Rowley Park, Brisbane Exhibition, Sydney Showground, Tracey’s, Claremont and the list goes on,” said McAvaney.

Chairperson of the MA Speedway Commission, Ivan Golding, said it is an honour to be included in the Australian Speedway Hall of Fame.

“It is excellent that the Hall of Fame will recognise all sections of Speedway.

“Motorcycle Speedway has been a part of the scene for a very long time and up until the advent of Sprintcar Racing on clay tracks in the 1980’s most Speedway venues offered a mixed card of two, three and four wheeled events.

“In fact most Speedway fans would know the first official World Speedway Championship was held in 1936 and won by an Australian, 21 years before an Australian won the World Motorcycle Championship for road racing which started in 1949, so Australia’s Speedway riders were among the country’s first World Champions.

“This is a positive step forward and MA is please to be a part of the Hall of Fame,” said Golding.
