Leigh Adams’ Speedway Training School was held at Olympic Park, Mildura last weekend for both senior and junior Australian Speedway riders, and proved to be a great success.
The free training school was put on by Motorcycling Australia and was held over two days, headed by current Speedway World number two Leigh Adams.
Both days of the school were extremely well attended and featured the likes of newly crowned Australian Solo Speedway Champion Chris Holder.
Adams, who volunteered his time, was thrilled with the success of the training days, and hopes that rider development initiatives like this continue throughout the rest of the country.
“This was just really a taste of what I want to do and we need to get a lot more of it done throughout Australia,” he said.
“We’re putting Speedway back where it should be. It’s such a great sport, I’ve made a great living out of it, and I want all these other kids to have the opportunity to do that too.”
The training days included: starting techniques, mental preparation, bike preparation, line selection, nutrition, dealing with the media, sponsorship and more.
“The kids got the most out of it; you can really see them sitting back and thinking about it. You see them on the track and they are really trying the things we’ve been talking about.”
Feedback from teams, attendees and parents about the training days was positive with many keen to see more events like it in the future.
Motorcycling Australia’s CEO, David White, was excited about the initiative and looks forward to seeing more rider development throughout the nation.
“It’s just fantastic for such high-profile riders to volunteer their time for events like this and to contribute to rider development at home,” White said.
“Those who come to the events have a great time and get to learn about the sport that they love from riders competing at the top level.”
