NSW speedway rider Chris Holder equalled a 16 year old record when he won the Australian Under 21 Solo Speedway Championship, following his recent Australian Solo Speedway Championship success.
Holder repeated the effort of Leigh Adams back in the year 1992 when he also won both titles in the one year and went into the record books.
Adams, who was given the key to the City on Saturday from the Mayor of Mildura Cr John Arnold, also attended the meeting at Olympic Park Speedway on Sunday night.
When receiving the trophy Holder again told the crowd he did not like riding at the Mildura track, a sentiment echoed by Queenslander Troy Bachelor, who was runner up in the Australian title and 4th in the Under 21 title after crashing into the fence in the second lap of the final.
Batchelor quipped to Holder he didn’t like the Mildura circuit either but at least he had won.
Holder won all heats but the last when he was defeated by South Australia’s Robert Ksiezak, who got the jump from the line and led all the way.
But he was unable to repeat the effort about 25 minutes later when he struck mechanical trouble in the re-run and finished third, after Batchelor had put himself into the fence causing the re-run. Batchelor had won his place in the final in a run off with South Australia’s Aaron Summers as both riders had finished equal on 12 points after the heats.
In the final it left the battle between Holder and surprise Victorian finalist Ty Proctor, who got second.
