Reigning Speedway World Champion Jason Crump has put his individual aspirations aside for a week, as he chases team glory at the 2007 FIM Speedway World Cup in Poland.
Crump had a night out in Leszno on Thursday as the dominant Australian rider – racking up four wins and a second place from the five races that he competed in.
But despite the superb individual effort, Crump was quick to point out that unless a high output is achieved from all of the riders wearing the green and gold, the Australian Team will not be successful.
“It is a team event and there are five riders in the team,” he said.
“You are not going to win anything if all five riders don’t contribute.”
Crump and Australian captain Leigh Adams are peaking on Speedway circuits around the world at the moment, and throughout the Race-Off took several opportunities to mentor their younger team-mates.
Their knowledge and experience certainly helped, and with the Australian Team growing as a unit ahead of the final on Saturday, Crump is looking forward to the big challenge which lies ahead.
“All-in-all I think that everybody did a really good job, and we’re obviously very happy to be in the final and it starts again from a clean sheet for us on Saturday.
“Without being overconfident you have got to give yourselves a chance.
“We’ve got a very good chance, but it is going to be a pretty tough day.”
