Buxton had the toughest of all beginnings to the 2016 season being comprehensively beaten by the League Champions Birmingham Brummies at Perry Barr. The Hitmen weren’t able to muster a single heat winner as the home side amassed no less than nine maximum 5-1s.

Team Boss Jason Pipe was almost lost for words post-match. In his worst result to date in charge of the team he apologised to travelling supporters ‘I would like to apologize to supporters for that performance, especially the travelling ones as we did notice the Buxton fans in the crowd. We seemed sleepy, slow out of the blocks and that was not acceptable’

The Champions began the evening with two 5-1s which set the tone for the match with
Buxton only achieving parity in 3 races.

Pipe did reserve his praise for debutant reserve Ryan Burton ‘He was the one shining light for us tonight I asked him to achieve a point a ride and he pretty much achieved that. In our defence it was the first time as a team we have been a track whilst Birmingham are on to their third. We have had no practice and it showed.’

The fixtures don’t get any easier for the Hitmen as Birmingham are the visitors to Hi-Edge this coming Sunday in the return.

Pipe refused to be dejected ‘We have to regroup for Sunday’s match and hope we can turn things around. We owe the supporters a performance’

BIRMINGHAM 66: Tom Perry 15, Darryl Ritchings 12, Zach Wajtknecht 10+2, Danyon Hume 10+2, Jack Smith 8+2, Jack P Blackburn 7+3, Tom Bacon 4.

BUXTON 24: Ryan Blacklock 8+1, Oliver Greenwood 8, Ryan Burton 5+1, Shelby Rutherford 2, Steve Jones 1+1, Lee Geary 0, Sam Wright 0, Jade Mudgway R/R.
