QBE Insurance Australia will serve as title sponsor of the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest indoor motorsport event – the QBE Insurance Australian FIM Speedway Grand Prix at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium.

The Sydney-based insurer has signed a two-year deal to become a huge part of the FIM Speedway World Championship finale, which pulled a terrific 26,000-strong crowd when it launched in Australia’s sporting capital last October.

With home heroes Chris Holder and Jason Doyle bidding for gold, along with Aussie-raised defending champion Tai Woffinden, it’s set to be an epic night of action for local and travelling fans alike.

Etihad Stadium Acting Chief Executive Officer Michael Green says QBE’s involvement offers invaluable support with the cost of transporting the sport’s biggest stars Down Under and constructing a world-class race track.

He said: “We’re absolutely delighted that a leading insurer such as QBE has demonstrated confidence in our event and come on board as the naming rights partner.

“I know everyone from the event organiser and rights holder BSI Speedway in the UK to the riders and our own team, including the track builders, are thrilled with the very tangible support of QBE. It helps to build credibility and stability and we couldn’t be happier with the arrangement.”

Michael Gallagher, National Manager – Motorcycle, QBE Insurance Australia, said he was fortunate enough to have witnessed the excitement of last year’s event and is proud to be involved in 2016.

He said: “We’re incredibly pleased to be establishing this partnership with the FIM Speedway Grand Prix and supporting one of the most exciting motorsport events in Australia.

“QBE Insurance Australia has been involved with the motorcycle industry for more than 40 years and we’re looking forward to this new opportunity to stand with other passionate bike owners, riders and newcomers in October.”

BSI Speedway managing director Torben Olsen said: “It is a real honour to have QBE Insurance Australia on board for one of the most exciting events on our calendar.

“Last year’s event really captured the imagination of fans Down Under and we’re determined to make the 2016 QBE Insurance Australian SGP even bigger and better.

“QBE’s support will help us achieve that and we look forward to welcoming them to Etihad Stadium for a fantastic night of racing and the crowning of our world champion in October.”
