There was action aplenty at the Undera Speedway in Victoria over the weekend, for the second and final round of the 2016 FIM Oceania Speedway Sidecar Cup.

A strong international contingent was present at the event, featuring two teams from the USA, four from New Zealand, and one team from the United Kingdom. The visitors however did not get a look in, with the local Australians just too strong and featuring in all results throughout the event.

Darren Treloar and Blake Cox wowed the large crowd with a dominant display throughout the five round heat series. The duo were undefeated in either the heats or the subsequent semi-final. It seemed like a forgone conclusion that Treloar and Cox would take the final.

That was until a less than optimal start to the final race, saw Treloar and Cox relegated to last position.

The misfortune of Treloar and Cox was something that the team of Warren Monson and Matty Morgan took full advantage of, with Trent Headland and Darryl Whetstone hot on their heels.

Despite the efforts of Mark Plaistead and Darcy Risstrom who fought bravely to hold off the fast finishing Treloar outfit, Plaistead and Risstrom were unsuccessful in keeping the lightening fast team at bay - Treloar guided his enormously powerful machine around them on the closing lap.

At the conclusion of the deciding final round, it was Monson and Morgan who were the round two victors.

“We had a bit of an up and down night – Undera always seems to dish out missed results, but for us overall we’re pretty happy to have gotten the round two win,” Monson shared.

“Taking a win is always the cream of the meeting, and we made it there in the final.”

Despite a tough final at Undera, it was Treloar and Cox who were eventually awarded the 2016 FIM

Oceania Speedway Sidecar Cup at the conclusion of the weekend’s racing.

“It’s great to have gotten the win, the whole series has been a great success, and I think it’s something that we need to keep going in the future,” Treloar shared.

“Having the two rounds, one week apart gives the interstate guys and the overseas riders more opportunities to ride.

“It’s been a well run couple of events, and we are happy to have been a part of it.”
