Birmingham Monarchs secretary Natalie Timms has confirmed that the club have lodged an appeal to British Cycling after being removed from the Cycle Speedway Elite League last week.

Timms added "whilst we accept some of the issues are indeed of our making there are a number of inconsistencies made by the commission when making their decision. This is why we have decided to appeal the decision".

The club are heartened by the out pouring of sympathy and praise for our efforts from other EL teams and riders and it is clear they want us to remain in the top league but with the EL due to start the first week of April time is fast running out.

The club are continuing to work with the council to improve facilities at the club and meetings and discussions are being planned throughout the year to assist us to regain EL status.

Councillor Karen Trench has been helping us achieve these goals and we have to put on record our thanks so far for the support as well as many within the council who are aware of our plight.

So far the club have yet to turn a wheel in competitive action although some of the club's riders have been taking part in individual meetings.  The most successful being 12 year old Billy Winwood who came 3rd in the U14's East Park 10th Anniversary last Saturday.

Work continues at the track with another drain put in near the start line whilst the new away side pits have now been completed. A new kitchen has also been built in readiness for the year ahead.

Track action is underway on Sunday 3rd April with a visit from  last season's champions the Wednesfield Aces in an Elite League 'challenge'. Action starting at 1PM with the juniors,  seniors at 2PM.
