One of the greatest fields ever assembled in the history of Australian speedway will contest the Grand Final of the dyovest.com Sidecar Grand Slam Championship, to be staged at Arunga Park Speedway, Alice Springs, on Saturday night, March 28.
Series organiser, Full Throttle Promotions, announced the rider line-up today and the elite 16 team field includes no less six competitors that have won the Australian Championship, three competitors that have won the Oceania Championship and three entrants that have won the World Championship. In addition, the field, combined, has won well over 50 state championships! The entry list is spearheaded by Darrin Treloar and Blake Cox, who are the current Grand Slam, Australian and Oceania Cup Champions.
The penultimate round of the Grand Slam Series, meanwhile, is being conducted at Gillman Speedway Stadium on Saturday night, March 21, before all roads lead to Alice Springs, one week later for the Grand Final of Australia’s biggest speedway bike tournament. Then, one week later, the 2015 Australian Championship, will be held over the Easter Long Weekend at Arunga Park, capping off what will be a magical three week period for speedway bike fans.
“Wow, what a field for the March 28 Grand Final,” said Arunga Park Speedway President, Mr Robert Tucker today.
“We couldn’t possibly hope for more. A group of riders like this will provide fans with an spectacular show and I can’t wait to see it. The race fans are in for a really special couple of weeks.”
In other news, special guest track announcer for the March 28 Grand Slam Grand Final will be 5 times Australian Champion Glenn O’Brien, whose knowledge of the sport is unsurpassed. Glenn will also be heavily involved in the television coverage of the event which will appear on Fox Sports, on delay, in early May.
