Almost 150 riders from across the country will descend on the north Queensland town of Townsville this Saturday for the 2013 Australian Senior Dirt Track Championships.

Event Official, Gary Davey said Townsville Motorcycle Club are expecting crowd number to swell to around 1,000 with numbers peaking at night during the finals.

“Lang Park at Woodstock is one of the iconic dirt tracks in Australia and a real favourite for riders and crowds.

“The decomposed granite track is 620 meters long and quite fast to ride on. It has played host to a few state and national titles before and was a good choice for the Australian Senior Dirt Track Championships this year.” Davey said.

Competitors from Queensland, South Australia, and New South Wales have been confirmed, with riders like Michael Kirkness looking to add to his already impressive trophy cabinet.

Dirt track champion, Kirkness will contest two Australian titles thanks to an extra bike supplied by Redline Honda in Mackay.

“I’ve been working real hard preparing both the bikes this year for the Pro Open’s and Unlimited classes, so hopefully it goes well.” Kirkness said.

Kirkness will be aiming to relieve his mate and current Aussie dirt track champion, Jace Castle of the titles as Castle recovers from injuries sustained at the NSW track titles in Blayney recently.

“I’m pretty devastated I won’t get to contest my titles this year. I love the track at Lang Park but that’s the way it goes I guess. It will still be great racing up there and whoever wins it will definitely have earned it.” Castle said.

Reigning Pro Lites Australian Champion, Luke Richards will also miss this year’s event, leaving several Australian titles wide open for the taking.

Lang Park is located on Buck Road, Woodstock, about 30km out of town. Tickets are available on the night with $20 admitting a car and its passengers.

Fans are encouraged to support Australia’s best Senior Dirt Track riders, with racing to starting during the day and continuing into the night.
