With eight races in 5 states ranging from Ohio to Florida to Arizona, the 2007 AMA USA Speedway Xtreme International Ice Racing Series featured an elite international field of Speedway and 4-wheeled ATV racers, but in the end no one could match the speed of Charlie Venegas on two wheels or Rich Schoeberl on four.
Venegas is a veteran ice racer but this was his first venture into the XIIR Series organized by British Bulldog Anthony Barlow.
Barlow was the only rider able to defeat Charlie, who won 6 of eight main events, including the final three, while Barlow scored two feature wins.
Venegas came away with a comfortable 115-90 edge over Barlow and James Mann placed third in the series with 65 points in the featured Solo Speedway division. Rounding out the top five were Scot David Meldrum and Carolinian veteran Ronny Kemp.
Defending XIIR ATV Champion Rich Schoeberl was nearly as dominant as Venegas, racking up five feature wins. The other main event winners were Shawn Bingham (two) and Nathan Seigel (one) and Schoeberl’s title came by a margin of 106-65 over Seigel.
The versatile Anthony Barlow did double duty and placed third in the ATV points with 58, followed by Chris Hall with 46 and another double-duty workhorse, James Mann, with 31.
The series opened on February 2 in St. Peters, Missouri, and carried into April for the doubleheader finale in New Mexico. This was the first time the series has ventured west of the Rockies and promoter Barlow is already looking at plans for next winter.
