Scunthorpe Speedway: Winners do it the hard way.

Round four of the Scunthorpe Speedway Winter Championship saw all three adult winners do it the hard way by progressing through the ‘B’ finals.

Scunthorpe rider, Stefan Nielsen, who is out on loan to Mildenhall in 2012, even finished second in the ‘B’ final but earned a reprieve when Steve Worrall pulled out of the ‘A’ final due to bike problems.  Nielsen passed Gary Irving in the final race to cap a fine meeting for the 17-year old and was joined by 2012 Scunthorpe Saint and Winter Series leader Tom Young and 2011 Berwick Bandit Tamas Sike.

In the Support Class it was King’s Lynn’s Lewis Rose who once again won but a fall in his last qualifying ride meant he too had to defeat a determined Ryan MacDonald in the ‘B’ final before overcoming Martin Wrathall, Lee Springthorpe and Tommy Fenwick in the ‘A’ race .  The Novice class was won by Mike Russell whilst Lewis Whitmore (Youth 250) and Jack Parkinson-Blackburn (Youth 125) won the other.  The Youth 125 final was undoubtedly one of the best of the sixty-five heats with the four youngsters, aged between nine and eleven, producing some fantastic racing.  Take a bow Jack, Ben Woodhull, Kyle Bickley and Lewis Whitmore.

It was another Youth 125 rider who captured the www.jbsportsimages Rider of the Meeting trophy.  Macauley Leek defeated two of the finalists in his first race before winning his second after hitting the fence.

After the meeting Scunthorpe Scorpions’ Team Manager Richard Hollingsworth praised everyone involved with the meeting.  “It was a great day.  Good weather, great people and fantastic racing.  Unlike last time the Premier League riders didn’t have it all their own way.  They had a few falls but they were also beaten fairly and squarely at times too”.

“I’d expect the next meeting, in three weeks time on 18th February, to be another busy one with it just four weeks before the start of the season.
