Stylish Slovenian Matej Zagar will make a welcome return to Swindon for the Bob Kilby Memorial Trophy in March.
Zagar, who rode for the Abbey Stadium side in 2009, was a big hit with fans because of his all-action racing and his bubbly character and he’s the latest star attraction for the event on Sunday, March 18.
And the club have revealed how Zagar made the call to return to his former club to appear in the meeting.
Co-promoter Gary Patchett said: “For a rider who was with the club for such a short amount of time Matej’s popularity is amazing.
“He did a fine job for us and it was just a shame his time with the club was so short, but it’s not for the want of trying on our part.
“We have been in talks with him about coming back here for the last couple of seasons but for one reason or another Matej decided British racing wasn’t for him.
“But that doesn’t mean we rule out a potential return to the team in the future, meanwhile our fans should enjoy seeing him back here in March.”
Zagar joins a host of former Robins riders to return to Blunsdon for the meeting. Nicolai Klindt, last year’s rider of the year and now back with Wolves, is also joined by Lee Richardson and Sebastian Ulamek.
Triple World Champion Nicki Pedersen also makes a rare appearance at the Abbey as he is not riding in the Elite League this season.
