HEATHENS will defend their National League Shield against Mildenhall early next season.
The National League AGM confirmed the news with Heathens facing the Knockout Cup winners from 2011.
And on the subject of the Knockout Cup, Heathens have been drawn against great rivals Buxton in the first round of 2012.
With Stoke visiting Monmore to open the Heathens season on April 3 and the Golden Hammer pencilled in for July 10 it means the club are planning a minimum of 11 home meetings as eight teams will come to the tapes for league action.
In addition, the club are hosting the British Under 21 Final on behalf of the British Speedway Promoters’ Association in April.
Chairman Nigel Pearson said: “Our season ticket holders have a minimum of 11 home meetings where their passes are valid which represents great value.
”But we don’t expect it to stop at that. We are determined to make progress in the Knockout Cup and we are desperate to reach the play-offs.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to defend the National Shield and against a club like Mildenhall we are sure they will be two fantastic meetings.
“Work can now begin on the fixture list. Having eight clubs is not ideal but it means we have a competitive league for us to race in.
“We’re all very excited about the season ahead and the interest from supporters has again been tremendous. All the riders are really keen to get on with it.”
