HOT on the heels of lifting his fourth Australian Speedway Championship, Chris Holder has been confirmed as heading the next batch of stars lined up for Shane Parker’s farewell at Sheffield on Sunday, March 18.
Holder won that fourth title at Gillman on Saturday evening, completing a clean sweep of victories in the three-round series.
He joins World Champion Greg Hancock and World Under-21 Champion Maciej Janowski, who have already been announced for Shane’s big day.
“What can I say about Chris – how laid-back can you get, basically,” said Shane, who helped the Poole-based Aussie out at a few Grand Prix rounds last year as part of his pit crew.
“The guy’s got a lot of ability, and it was a pleasure to help him out last year. I enjoyed being part of the Grand Prix scene, and Chris got some places on the rostrum, too, which made it special.”
Chris forms a formidable Aussie partnership at Elite League champions Poole with Darcy Ward – and great news for Sheffield fans is that Darcy has also agreed to race in Shane’s meeting.
Darcy, (19) a twice World Under-21 Champion in 2009 and 10, is tipped for big things after a meteoric rise through the speedway ranks in his four years racing on these shores.
And, completing an Aussie hat-trick, the man who clinched runners-up spot in this year’s Aussie Championship, Davey Watt, is also en route for Owlerton.
Flying the flag for the Brits, Shane was delighted to confirm six-times (and current) British Champion Scott Nicholls has also agreed to ride in his farewell.
Completing a batch of top-line captures is Swedish star Freddie Lindgren, who captains Wolverhampton in the Elite League and is about to embark upon his fifth season as a Grand Prix regular.
Gates open at 3.45 pm on March 18 with tapes-up due at 5 pm.
