Wolverhampton will face runaway Elite League leaders Poole Pirates in the first leg of the Elite League Speedway Play-offs at Monmore on Monday - after a dramatic change of heart by the Dorest club.
The Parrys International Wolves were expecting to face either Coventry or Peterborough after publicity from the Poole area suggested they would pick Lakeside or Peterborough.
Poole chief Matt Ford said on Monday: "If (Coventry) beat us on Thursday, then I think we will leave Wolverhampton to take care of them in the semi-final play-offs and we will take on Peterborough."
Now the Monmore men will be looking for a substantial lead from their home leg on Monday to take to Wimborne Road for the return on Monday week, September 27.
The other semi-final will feature Coventry against Peterborough after the Bees' stunning run of form which transformed their season from relegation candidates to title hopefuls.
Parrys International Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten said: "This has
taken us by surprise and perhaps Poole view us as their best option because of our injury concerns.
"Even though we're the underdogs we will give it everything we've got to build up a handy lead from our home leg and I'm sure our fans will turn out in force to get right behind us. It promises to be a great night and our boys will be ready to make it hard for Poole.
"Every indication from Poole was that they were going to pick Lakeside, and if they didn't qualify, then Peterborough - that shows they're concerned about Wolverhampton. It should be some meeting."
