A brilliant display from Mark Simmonds with four wins from five rides was not enough to save Plymouth from a 54-41 defeat in their National League match against Dudley at Birmingham last night.
Simmonds was well supported by skipper Seemond Stephens, who was the only other race winner for the Devils. The two experienced Cornishmen contributed 28 of the side’s 41 points against a Dudley outfit who took over from Buxton at the top of the table following their 13-point victory.
Plymouth remain in the fourth – and final – play-off place, level on points with Bournemouth, who visit King’s Lynn on Sunday, and two points ahead of Rye House, who are at home to Newport on Saturday evening.
Dudley: Lee Smart 8 (4 rides), Micky Dyer 7+1 (4), Tom Perry 10+2 (5), Jake Anderson 10+2 (5), Barrie Evans 5+1 (3). Reserves: Ashley Morris 4+1 (4), Richard Franklin 10+3 (5).
Plymouth: Nicki Glanz 5 (5), Jaimie Pickard 2+2 (4), Matt Bates 3 (4), Seemond Stephens 11+1 (4), Mark Simmonds 17 (5). Reserves: Bob Charles 0 (3), Ben Reade 3 (5).
