Tensions will be high ahead of Thursday’s (9 September) Elite League
‘B’ clash between Swindon and Lakeside, with the visiting side locked
in a three-way battle for a Play-Off berth.
With the Elite League Play-Off cut-off date set for Thursday, Lakeside
desperately require points from the clash at Blunsdon as they look to
fend off a late charge from Coventry.
Swindon will be at full strength for the encounter, with Cory
Gathercole and Morten Risager assuming reserve berths. The in-form
Polish duo of Grzegorz Zengota and Maciek Janowski assume middle-order roles, with Simon Stead competing at No. 5.
The visiting side track a team with strong Swindon links. The Hammers
are led by former Robins’ favourite Lee Richardson and also include
former Blunsdon-based rider Peter Ljung.
Elsewhere, Jon Cook’s side will operate the rider replacement facility
for the injured Jonas Davidsson, another ex-Swindon rider, of course.
Swindon team-manager Ronnie Russell said: “Lakeside will be targeting
their second Blunsdon victory of the season on Thursday. I’m confident
we can repel their charge and I’m expecting a strong performance from
the Robins’ squad.
“We demonstrated terrific form at Lakeside last week and shone in the
face of adversity. We’re now riding for pride and I want the Swindon
boys to contribute fifteen heats of speedway that the supporters will
thoroughly enjoy.”
