The Kart Raceway Cobras were left with that sinking feeling, as their Play-Off hopes took a hit with this thumping in Ryde. Kyle Hughes, Joe Jacobs and Shane Hazelden nabbed the Cobras’ three race wins, with Jacobs’ success in Heat 8 sparking their only heat advantage of a 7-2.
David Mason’s mid-match withdrawal with illness was a further blow.
The Islanders, for their part, looked a compact side around their own circuit. Six of their team were paid for at least one race win, with Danny Warwick and Lee Smethills both unbeaten and Paul Starke and Nick Simmons each dropping just a single point.
The Cobras remain in 6th place in the National League table, two points behind Plymouth and defending champions Bournemouth in the race for the final Play-Off spot. Buxton, Dudley and Newport – who are part of Saturday’s double header visitors to Rye House – have already qualified, with the Cobras also due in Dorset to face Bournemouth on Sunday in a tense run-in to qualification.
