Tomasz Piszcz, one of the most popular riders ever to wear Birmingham colours, will make an emotional return to Perry Barr in the Joe Thurley Memorial Trophy next Wednesday, September 15.

Piszcz, who won the Premier League Pairs title alongside Jason Lyons for Birmingham last season, has been frozen out of British racing this year but has accepted the invitation to return to the second city for the individual event.

The event, in memory of Birmingham's former promoter and clerk of the course, will also feature comeback man Chris Kerr. The Californian suffered a broken leg in May and this meeting will be his first piece of action back at Perry Barr.

Wolverhampton's Elite League star Ty Proctor is also included along with in-form Coventry man Ben Barker.

And Dudley Heathens, who share Perry Barr as a home track, will also be represented with Lee Smart, Jake Anderson and Micky Dyer.

Birmingham boss Graham Drury said: "It's a meeting which has attracted a superb line-up and we're looking forward to it. We asked fans for their suggestions in terms of who they would like to see and we have delivered the goods. I think every Birmingham fan wants to see Piszcz again."

Birmingham went down to a 60-35 defeat at Newcastle on Monday.
The BRC Roofing Brummies were outclassed by a solid all-round team performance from the Diamonds who are now favourites to finish second heading into the play-offs.

Aaron Summers was the top Birmingham rider with 11+1 but he didn't get anough backing from his colleagues.

Newcastle won all 10 of the opening races to lead 39-21 and there was no way back in the latter stages of the meeting.

Birmingham continue their Premier League campaign with a trip to King's Lynn on Wednesday.

NEWCASTLE 60: Mark Lemon 15, Kenni Larsen 14+1, Rene Bach 14+1, Dakota North 8+2, Derek Sneddon 6+1, Adam McKinna 3, Jason King R/R.

BIRMINGHAM 35: Aaron Summers 11+1, Jason Lyons 9, Richard Sweetman 6, Steve Johnston 4, Juston Sedgmen 2+1, Klaus Jakobsen 2, Kyle Newman 1+1.
