Belle Vue have a new World champion in their rising Danish star, Patrick Hougaard. He captained Denmark to an emphatic victory in the World Under-21 Team Cup final at Rye House, in Hertfordshire on Sunday night.
Hougaard, who is also one of the favourites for the World Under-21 individual title, won two races to finish with 11 of Denmark's 51 points. Next came Sweden on 37, Poland on 35 and Great Britain a disappointing last on 25.
Hougaard returns to action for the Autogate Aces in Monday night's home Elite League match against Coventry (7 30).
Team boss Chris Morton said: "This is a brilliant success for Patrick and for the Danes who have a great strength in depth. Congratulations to him, it is a high point of his young career to lead his country to a World title."
