Edinburgh Speedway: Monarchs win at Stoke, secure 2010 PL.

With another great display at Stoke the Scotwaste Monarchs took 4 points and roared over the line to confirm their third Premier League championship – they have 65 points and cannot be caught.

In some ways this has been Monarchs’ best side ever. Comparisons may not be entirely fair, but with an away match record now of 8 wins in 10 matches, this is the best we have ever been.

Club Chairman Alex Harkess said “This is a wonderful team and we are proud of them”. His co-promoter John Campbell, who as always has attended every match, said “It was great that we won it ourselves rather than have a score elsewhere decide it as in our previous wins.

“We have all had a great night but there is still more to be done this season.”

Again it was a team show with everyone contributing, but the strong men tonight were the top two of Ryan Fisher and Kevin Wolbert, both totally dominant and devastating.

As at King’s Lynn, the score flattered the home side – our unlucky man was Matthew whose bike failed while he led heat 8 and threw him on to the track. He also stopped in his next race.

William Lawson also had a fall while leading, but these misfortunes were only blips on the road to success.

A huge travelling support made their way down the M6 to see if the team could finish the job, and they were not disappointed. From the heat 1 5-1 we took control and never looked like losing.

On Sunday we go to Glasgow with the pressure completely off – we are the champions!

Monarchs – Fisher 13, Wolbert 13. Stoke – Tomicek 13.
