Glasgow Speedway: Tigers set to wlecome champions

Three Glasgow riders are awaiting clearance to ride in the Scottish Derby clash at Ashfield this Sunday and to add spice to the clash, the Monarchs will be coming to either celebrate having won the league or perhaps even to win the league itself.

The visitors have been having a very successful period in their history and their Wednesday night win over Kings Lynn means that only Newcastle can draw level with them should every result go their way.  Edinburgh will head off to Stoke where they know a point will win them the league and should they fail then they will come to Ashfield with a similar scenario facing them and a potential title win on their greatest rivals track.

That is something the Tigers would be most keen to avoid, a task hard enough on its own right, but add in the fact that there are injury concerns over five Tigers, means that it will be a most difficult assignment.   Co-Promoter Stewart Dickson knows that this has the potential to be a hard afternoon for everyone.

"A derby meeting is tough enough as it is, especially with the injuries that we have, but when it could be a championship day for them then it makes it doubly tough.  I am going to head to away meetings with Scunthorpe and Newport with the hope that there will be no further problems for the team, indeed I know that neither Lee Dicken nor John Branney will take any part in the events of the weekend while I have to wait on news on the three heatleaders too.  Joe had suffered a wee bang when he crashed last week while Travis has a back problem from the week before.  Josh crashed at Newcastle and he is suffering too with a back injury.  It really is a case of keeping everything crossed ahead of the meeting.

Our form in recent weeks has slipped dramatically, a lot of that caused by the injuries, but there would be no better time than this to come striking back.  We have held the upper hand in the clashes so far this season although the Monarchs have once again had a tremendous season.  Although it is unlikely as I expect them to get the point they need at Stoke, it would be great if they came here needing the win and we managed to stop it happening for a bit longer.  That would be ideal but the one thing for certain is that we will need to be at our very best to compete with them.  We are also having to change our riding order with Nick now in the main body of the side, that is not ideal but we will give it a go and hope that we can give our fans something to cheer at a time when there has been precious little of that to enjoy."

TEAMS:

Glasgow: 1.  Joe Screen  2.  John Branney r/r   3.  Nick Morris  4.  Travis McGowan  5.  Josh Grajczonek  6.  Jade Mudgeway (guest)  7.  Jake Anderson

BEST OF THE REST:

The A-Plant Tigers face a real battle to make it into the end of season Young Shield.  They do need to move one spot up the league to guarantee a place and it is hoped that can be achieved in the meetings remaining.

The Tigers are busy this week with a trip to Scunthorpe on Friday followed by another attempt at the meeting against Newport in Wales on Saturday before heading north to take on the Monarchs on Sunday.  Guest for Newport in place of Lee Dicken is James Holder but no replacement has been found as yet for the Scunthorpe meet.

The Tigers end of season Dinner Dance is set for Saturday 30th October at the Bellshill Hilton.  This will be a joint affair between the GTSSC and the Promotion.  Tickets will be available on Sunday from any committee member or from the Speedway Office at the end of the meeting.

Joe Screen has been confirmed as the Tigers representative at the PLRC at Sheffield as he is top of the Tigers averages at the cut-off.  Should the two wildcards go to the next two in the averages then Travis McGowan will also be in the meet, although that is still awaiting confirmation.

The referee for Sunday's meeting is Dave Watters.
