Belle Vue Speedway: Collins advises Wright.

Belle Vue legend Peter Collins has been giving the benefit of his experience to try to help James Wright through a loss of form.

Stockport-based Wright has suffered a run of poor scores and the Autogate Aces need him back on song for their run-in to the season, starting with next Monday's tough home Elite League match against in-form Coventry at Kirkmanshulme Lane (7 30).

Team boss Chris Morton has talked over the situation with Wright and now 1976 World champion Collins, who has worked with him in the past, has stepped in as well.

Morton said: “I don't really know why this has happened to James and I have tried to work things out with him. Now Peter has offered to help and has been to some meetings to try to help and encourage him.”

The Aces will call up their No 8 cover rider, Aussie youngster Josh Grajczonek (pronounced Greyshunek), for the match against Coventry.

He will replace Danish rider Ulrich Ostergaard who suffered a double fracture of his left leg, just below the knee, in Monday's defeat at Coventry.

Ostergaard, whose 2009 season was also ended by an injury at Coventry, flew home on Wednesday after spending two nights in hospital.

Morton will be waiting for a check on Swedish veteran, Peter Karlsson, who suffered a shoulder injury in the same crash at Coventry.

He said: “Peter took a heavy whack to his shoulder but he didn't think it was broken and was hoping to ride again later this week.

“There was a lot of soft tissue damage and while he could move his shoulder, there was no strength in it. But it was swollen and bruised.

“In addition, Hans Andersen was still struggling with his broken finger which was still in a brace. It was great credit to him that he turned up for us and tried to race.”

The defeat at Coventry ended Belle Vue's mathematical chance of reaching the top four in the table and qualifying for the end of season play-offs.

Morton added: “Coventry are having a good run of form at the moment so we need to get back to our best on Monday.”

A new date for the rained off match against Swindon still hasn't been confirmed by the Promoters' Association but the Aces want to run it on Monday, September 13.

Swindon are happy with that but the date is after the official cut-off for Elite League matches. However, neither side are involved with the play-offs so they are hoping to get clearance to run on that date.

It would complete the league fixtures but it may not be the final meeting of the season.

Morton added: “We have been in discussions with the American Dream Team, who have an end of season tour, and are hoping to tie up the details for them to come here for a junior status match.

“The likeliest date, if it all works out, is Monday, October 11 but it could be a week later. The Americans are very keen to have a meeting at Belle Vue and they would prefer the earlier date because they go back home on October 19.”
