George Stancl has announced two more riders for his Farewell Meeting at Newcastle on Monday 27th September (7:30pm).
Newcastle’s brilliant young Dane Rene Bach is happy to compete, even though he has only met George in recent times when he has come along to watch home meetings.
James Grieves has ridden with George at Wolverhampton and Glasgow. He says “I raced with George in 1996 at Wolves, Stewart McDonald and I had a very good relationship with George.
“We rode together ’96 – ’97 and a bit of ’98 I think, then George disappeared off the scene for a couple of years. In 2000 Glasgow were asking about riders to sign and I mentioned George, and they got me to give him a phone to ask if he was interested.
“So I was part of the chain of getting him there.
“I’ve known George for years and he is the ultimate professional. He is immaculate with his stuff and everything he does is spot on. He has a lot of respect from me anyway, and I’m sure many others.
“It’s just a shame he has retired because he was good to watch. He had a good style, with the big elbow up – he’s a loss to the sport. I’m honoured he has asked me to ride in the meeting and I am over the moon to ride for George.”
(Riders announced so far: Kenni Larsen, Rene Bach and Andrew Tully (Newcastle), Pepe Franc (Sheffield), Adrian Rymel (Glasgow), Mark Lemon and James Grieves (Wolverhampton)).
