Ulrich Ostergaard, Belle Vue's Danish rider, suffered a double fracture just below the knee of his left leg in a horror pile-up at Coventry last night.
He was in a first-bend tangle at the start of the fourth heat with teammate Peter Karlsson and Coventry captain Chris Harris, all three being hurled into the safety fence.
Ostergaard came off worst and was taken off the track by ambulance to Coventry's Walsgrave hospital. But Karlsson also took no further part in the meeting after taking a heavy blow to a shoulder.
Aces team boss Chris Morton, who also had No 1 rider Hans Andersen struggling with a broken finger, said: "The injuries made the match pretty pointless and it cloukld have been so significant for us in terms of the play-offs in view of Peterborough's shock home defeat by Eastbourne."
