Berwick’s A & J Scott-sponsored Bandits shot off to a fine start in Cumbria last night with a big win for Czech Adrian Rymel in a Bandit’s 2-4 with Heat Two a shared affair when Luke Priest fell when in third allowing Berwick to maintain the lead with Comet Richard Lawson taking the win.
A Heat three 4-2 to Andre Compton and Rusty Harrison, split by Bandit Michal Makovsky tied up the match at 9-9, but his Bandits were back in front by two after the fourth race with Lee Complin fending off a fierce challenge from Chris Schramm from behind for a deserved win in the 4-2.
With Rymel well out in front Marcin Rempala, who again enjoyed a spectacular meeting in still his first few weeks in UK speedway rapidly becoming the Bandits’ fans new hero, shot under Compton on the second lap to join the leader up front in a Berwick 1-5 to place the visitors on a six-point lead, 12-18.
Craig Cook finally re-found his form for the Comets taking Heat Six well with his partner Harrison keeping Complin at bay to hit back with a home 5-1 hauling Berwick back by four at 17-19,
Rempala took his first win on Cumbrian shale in Heat Eight from a startling gate with Kyle Howarth, Berwick’s guest taking third in a 2-4 as the Bandits moved two further ahead 22-26, but a Cook / Harrison maximum over Paul Clews and Makovsky levelled the match again at 30-all.
Rymel and Rempala, battling past both Comets, put the Bandits four up once more in Heat 11 with Schramm and Priest searching for an answer as the Bandits motored on to 31-35 with the four lead maintained after a shared Heat 12.
The final two races secured three league points for the Bandits who continued to press hard and take the over all win 43-47 with the top two of Rymel and Rempala justly milking the cheers for all they were worth after another stunning performance from both.
Ian Rae was once again delighted with his riders saying: “They work magnificently once again proving their team mentality is at an all-time high and again got the points they deserved to remain in equal sixth in the Premier League, and we have higher in our sights – just watch and observe!”
