The talent spotters will be out in force on Thursday evening from 7.30pm when Redcar Speedway stages its annual Stars of Tomorrow tournament at the South Tees Motorsport Park off South Bank Road, Middlesbrough.

A number of riders on parade are in their first full seasons in British Speedway and special pride of place will go the most inexperienced racer Jack Hirst who led the Redcar Cubs to their recent success in winning the Northern Junior League. The Manchester-based 16-year-old has family at  nearby Ingleby Barwick and was signed by Cubs' manager Jonathon Swales after an impressive display for the Belle Vue Colts in a junior challenge match at the Motorsports Park.

Several riders are enjoying third tier National League berths at present including Paul Starke (Isle of Wight), Tom Perry (Dudley), Robert Branford, Jason Garrity and Nick Morris (Buxton) and the Scunthorpe Saints collection of Ashley Birks, Gary Irving, Richard Worrall and Adam Wrathall. Only Steve Worrall, local lad Jamie Swales and Jack Hirst do not hold down regular team places at present. The majority of the field are English with Branford and Morris the only Australians present.

The 12 riders will contest an initial 12 qualifying heats with the top eight going into two semi-finals and a four man Grand Final to follow. At the request of the home promoter Brian Havelock points gained in the qualifiers will accumulate into the semi-finals and final so granting the most consistent rider the overall first place.

STARS OF TOMORROW:

Ashley Birks, Robert Branford, Jason Garrity, Jack Hirst, Gary Irving, Nick Morris, Tom Perry, Paul Starke, Jamie Swales, Richard Worrall, Steve Worrall, Adam Wrathall.

Meanwhile with a long injury list the Redcar Bears senior team will track  guests Stuart Robson, Aaron Summers and Adam Roynon in the first leg of the Tweed/Tees Trophy at Berwick Speedway on Saturday evening.

There will be a special admission promotion up at Shielfield Park with Under-15s let in for free.
