Birmingham Speedway: Brummies on fast track to Play Offs

BIRMINGHAM celebrated their full planning permission with an emphatic win over rivals King’s Lynn at Perry Barr last night – to virtually secure their place in the top four.

The Brummies are on the fast track to the play-offs and seemingly regaining their strength from earlier in the season, and a bumper crowd enjoyed seeing the Norfolk side – who have so often thwarted them in recent years – given a hammering.

Skipper Jason Lyons and a revitalised Justin Sedgmen both scored paid maximums and shared in four 5-1s as part of a devastating combination, and Sedgmen raised the roof by passing both Olly Allen and Tomas Topinka to complete his full house in Heat 15.

Brummies were in blistering form from the gate, launching to 5-1s in each of the first three races and it was clear from the early stages that the Stars had little to offer in their lower-order.

Even when the visitors used the tactical ride option, it went badly wrong when Lasse Bjerre looped at the start of Heat 8, and by the time Allen won Heat 11 for six points, the meeting was already over as a contest.

Lyons kept his unbeaten run going with a brilliant effort to reel in and pass Allen on the last lap of Heat 13, whilst ex-Brummie Adam Roynon also received a generous reception for his race win in his final outing.

But Sedgmen saved the best for last, coming from fourth to second in Heat 15 to leave the Stars’ big guns trailing and take the solid-scoring Brummies through the 60-point barrier.

BIRMINGHAM 61: Jason Lyons 14+1, Justin Sedgmen 11+4, Steve Johnston 9+2, Klaus Jakobsen 8+1, Richard Sweetman 8, Kyle Newman 6+2, Aaron Summers 5.

KINGS LYNN 32: Olly Allen 10+1, Tomas Topinka 7+1, Adam Roynon 5, Kozza Smith 5, Cal McDade 2+1, Lasse Bjerre 2, Adam Lowe 1.
