Belle Vue Speedway: Fixture headache.

Belle Vue bosses are thumbing anxiously through their diaries trying to find a new date for the home Elite League match against Swindon which was rained off on Monday.

The only plus point for the Autogate Aces is that the postponement will give Hans Andersen, their captain and No 1, more time to complete his recovery from the broken finger he suffered in the Scandinavian Grand Prix in Sweden.

Andersen was due to ride on Monday only eight days after the jarring fall at Malilla which left him feeling 'as if I'd been run over by a train.'

But the Aces have hit a real problem over the re-staging of the Swindon match which has to be held by the week beginning September 6 as the championship play-offs begin a week later.

They are away to Coventry next Monday with a home match against the Midland side on September 6 before going to Ipswich two nights later.

It means there are no first-choice Mondays left, leaving team boss Chris Morton with a major dilemma.

He has looked at Sundays, but they clashed with the Polish League, while their usual optional night of Wednesdays won't work because of riders with bookings in Denmark.

The Aces could even switch to a Tuesday as that night is free from greyhound racing at the moment but that is ruled out by Swedish racing.

Morton said: “We were desperate to get the Swindon match run last Monday but there was no chance in view of the weather. But finding a new date before the play-offs has proved to be a real problem.”

Andersen will form a powerful partnership with Peter Karlsson when they represent the Aces in the Elite League Pairs Championship at Ipswich on Saturday, September 4.

Andersen won the title last year as a Poole rider and the Pirates will be represented by Chris Holder and Bjarne Pedersen when they defend the title.

The Pirates won the title at Eastbourne on a memorable night last season but this year’s event will take place on the newly-shaped Ipswich track.

The meeting takes place the night before the World Under-21 Team Cup Final at Rye House when Belle Vue's Patrick Hougaard will captain the Danish team against Great Britain, Poland and Sweden.

The Pairs line-up is: POOLE: Chris Holder, Bjarne Pedersen. PETERBOROUGH: Kenneth Bjerre, Niels Kristian Iversen. BELLE VUE: Hans Andersen, Peter Karlsson. EASTBOURNE: Ricky Kling, Cameron Woodward. WOLVERHAMPTON: Freddie Lindgren, Tai Woffinden. LAKESIDE: Adam Shields, Jonas Davidsson. COVENTRY: Krzysztof Kasprzak, Chris Harris. SWINDON: Leigh Adams, Simon Stead. IPSWICH: Scott Nicholls, Danny King.
