Swindon Speedway has signed 19-year-old Polish hot-shot Maciek
Janowski as a replacement for Thomas H. Jonasson.
The talented youngster will make his Robins’ debut in Thursday’s home
meeting against Coventry and lines-up at the No. 2 position.
Janowski has achieved plenty in his homeland and is an integral part
of both the Polish Under-19 and Under-21 national teams. Indeed, he
was amongst the squad that reigned victorious in the 2009 Under-19
European Team Championship.
The Pole is no stranger to sturdy competition, having represented
Wrocław since 2007 in his homeland’s top-flight. In Sweden, he has
spent time with Rospiggarna and currently rides for Piraterna.
Janowski is undoubtedly one of his country’s great hopes for the
future and, in 2008, he scooped the ‘Junior of the Year’ award from
journalists at Poland’s weekly speedway publication. Also in that
season, he was selected as track reserve for a Grand Prix round at
Bydgoszcz.
Robins’ team manager Ronnie Russell said: “Maciek is a very talented
rider and we’re looking forward to seeing him in action here in
Britain."
“The absence of Thomas means we’ve had to bring in a replacement to
fill a second-string capacity. We’re delighted to have secured
highly-rated Polish youngster Maciek Janowski, who has already
achieved plenty in his short career."
“I know that Leigh Adams has been impressed when he’s seen Maciek ride in Poland and we’re hopeful that this short stint in British speedway
will lead to greater things in 2011. I urge the Swindon fans to make
Maciek feel very welcome on Thursday, as I’m sure he’ll be feeling a
little nervous before the action gets underway.”
