“Flyin” Mike Faria and Jimmy “Little Animal” Fishback captured the High Desert Pairs Championship at Wheel2Wheel Raceway in Victorville.

Faria and Fishback met “Fast” Eddie Castro and Robbie Sauer in the main event.  The 4-3-2-0 scoring system meant that members of each team needed to avoid finishing last to ensure victory.  Castro made the best start but Fishback brazenly squeezed between Castro and the fence on the back straight to take the lead.  Castro tried to retake the lead, but the important battle was at the back with Faria holding third ahead of Sauer.  Sauer was challenging on the inside for two laps but switched his attack to the outside when he couldn’t gain ground.  Fishback led Castro all the way to the finish line, but the battle behind them heated up on the final lap.  Sauer caught up to Faria on the final corner but the former national champion fended him off to help clinch the title.

Three rounds of heats kicked off with Faria and Fishback getting a perfect 7-2 over Russell Green and Michael Raines.  Tyson Talkington and Austin Novratil scored a 7-2 over the Facchini Brothers in the second heat.  Michael Hull and Buck Blair combined for a 7-2 over Aaron Fox and Brad Pappalardo in the third heat.  Sauer and Castro kept the 7-2 trend going by defeating Brandon Leedy and Joey Donaldson to end round one.

Fishback and Faria started round two with another 7-2.  Novratil and Talkington combined for a 6-3 over Raines and Green.  Blair and Hull remained perfect by gettinga 7-2 ahead of Castro and Sauer.  Pappalardo and Fox scored a 7-2 over Billy Lyons and Leedy to finish the second round.

Raines was the only finisher in the first race of round three.  Fishback won event 25, but Novratil and Talkington took second and third, respectively, to get a 5-4 heat win.  Castro and Sauer pinned a 7-2 on Fox and Papplardo.  Blair and remained the only perfect team with a 7-2 over Donaldson and Lyons.

In the first semi Castro led Novratil from start to finish but Talkington held third and the transfer to the main before shutting the throttle of prematurely and allowing the determined Sauer to steal third and the transfer to the main at the finish line.  Fishback and Faria scored the advantage over Blair and Hull in the second semi to transfer to the main.

Brandon Leedy led all four laps en route to victory in the Second Division Main Event.  Billy Lyons finished second and Joey Donaldson was third.

Tony DeAlmeida defeated Kevin Johnson in the Third Division Main Event.

Samuel Ramirez and Max Ruml teamed up to win the Youth First Division Pairs Championship with a perfect score.

Team Hagon Shocks teammates Kurtis Hamill and Broc Nicol combined to win the Youth Second Division Pairs Championship.

Ally McGrath led from start to finish and won the Pee Wee/Powderpuff Main Event.  Brandon Rhea finished second, Erika Lyons was third, former speedway racer Pam “Pinky” Bennett finished fourth, Julie Morrison was fifth, Dakota Shockley finished sixth, and Kaiten Sharp was seventh.

A nasty crash eliminated two teams on the first attempt to run the Sidecar Main Event.  National Champions Joe Jones and Jimmy Olsen defeated Dave Alexander and Chris Dent in the restart to take top honors.

The next speedway event at Wheel2Wheel Raceway is the Sidecar National Championship on Saturday, September 4.  The event will include all divisions of speedway, youth speedway, pee wees, and powderpuff.
